The Nether Regions of the Mind
24×36 oil on panel original
It is an oil painting done with lots of turp and varnish.
The painting represents many aspects of life.
The man is tense.
He is standing in the shadows, not knowing what to do.
You can’t see his face because he doesn’t want you to know what he is thinking.
So he stands there in his shadow and waits,
Waits until the day that everything is clear.
It is based on the character in a book of a friends
that is yet to be published.
It was featured in the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth, NH March 2009
Its a self portrait of sorts. I’m the model and I’m a bit of a loner when I’m painting hence the face or lack there of.
I hope you like it and add a comment telling me what’s good or bad about it. I’m open to a good critique.

thanks dude…what do you like about it?

Im no painter so I wont give feedback on the technical side but I can tell you what I feel from it.
Love the red flowing (running) colours… gives it a manic feel. The fact that the dude is coming form the shadows makes me think he has something to hide… perhaps a dark past? I see the energy (hot colours)... tension in his stomach but his head looks bowed and his shoulders are slightly slumped… almost submissive…. maybe hes given up on something? I think he is struggling with what to do … tired.. unsure of himself.. dissapponited?. Perhpas thats why his face is obscured? He’s unsure what (or who) he is? No identity. Those brush strokes through his head … they look like they were angry strokes? Maybe frustration at the way the character thinks or what he represents.
Anyway, I love art that makes me think and this really makes me think. It reminds me a little of a pic I did recently.
