I can not remember when I first fell in love with taking pictures, but I know it was very early on. When I turned 18 I came into a little bit of money that I had planned for years on how I would spend it. I wanted a car (what teenager doesn’t?), a stereo (ditto) and a good 35mm camera. I got all three. I bought my first 35mm down in NYC before the St. Patrick’s Day parade that I cut out of high school to attend. Try and explain that one to your parents!
My first photo adventure was just a few months later when I flew up to Boston for a weekend for no other reason than to walk the streets and take pictures. My mother still has one of those enlargements framed in her home. Many cameras and children later, I now have some time and money to spend on honing this love and craft. I thank Flickr for helping rekindle that desire, my digital cameras for making it so easy to play and the wonderful people that make up Utata for their encouragement and camaraderie.
At 46, I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I will still be taking pictures and enjoying photography.
