Today I visited the Muntapa Tunnel.. Queensland’s longest straight railway tunnel (287m). It is also quite high being 640m above sea level. Now that trains don’t roar through it the tunnel is a seasonal home to a colony of bent winged bats… who were quite active this morning. And given that yesterday was a record high temperature in QLD, the cool, dark tunnel, was a welcome relief.
3 shot (hand-held) HDR, Nikon D90, 18-200mm lens, processed in Photomatix Pro, shot at… well…. near Cooyar (but more accurately "the middle of NOWHERE), in Queensland Australia.

Wow! Where do you find these places?

    Great photo Tracie.

  • This spot is only an hour from home and I have lived here for 5 years and had never even heard of it until the day before I shot this. I think there are little gems all around us if we only seek them out :)

Doesn’t it always seem to be that great things like this are so close at hand and we don’t get to see them? Problem is getting the TIME to.

  • Agreed.

Woooh Woooh looks like the light on the train coming through! lol, Can’t help but notice the graffiti in there Tracie so others obviously visit the area my friend. Take Care! Great shot Congratulations!

  • The tunnel was very dark, but the sun was blazing that day, so I think that is what gave it the train light affect with the HDR. And there was lots of graffiti, so I am sure people visit there. There’s a picnic area and loo’s near the entrance. Will definitely have to go back sometime.
