Looking west from my beautiful backyard, right on Northport Bay, in Asharoken, New York are the Stacks.

Northport Power Station owned by National Grid is the second largest power plant in the North Eastern United States. The plant’s annual output of 5.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide makes it the second most polluting power plant in the Northeast. The plant was constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, using technologies which are now outdated .The plant is exempt from the Clean Air Act emissions standards. It was grandfathered in when the act was passed.~Wikipedia

Wonderful art and meditation, Tori; sort of reminds me that, what we build on the surface has far deeper roots into the earth (and subconscious) than we always want to see and admit. None the less, the reflections are there, and should always be considered before hand, Great one, Tori!

  • Yes, Joe, you are right. Thank you for stopping in and leaving your great comment. It’s funny that the people who grew up here, and still live here don’t have a problem with the stacks at all. They have just always been here. Before they built these monstrosities on our shore and in our neighborhoods, the power plant was on Northport Harbor, at the base of Main Street, right in the middle of town. The New York Times did a piece on this a few years ago, when some politicians were trying to upgrade the plant. Almost everyone they interviewed didn’t see anything wrong with the Stacks being here. I say if they have to be here and there’s nothing that can change that, then clean them up. Rebuild them, so they stop polluting our air and water.

    Wonderful image.
    Sorry about all the pollution.

  • Thank you, John. I hated to think they might look pretty in a photograph, and I knew when I saw the reflections in the water that it would at least make an interesting image.

It almost feels like it should not be such a beautiful image. Something hurting our environment, hurting us.
Great art Tori, but wow, we’ve got to get our air clean and take care of this scary state of environmental meltdown. Feels like we are not doing enough fast enough. xoxoxoxoxoxoxo♥

  • Thank you, Shar. That is exactly how I feel about the whole thing. xxxx
