When we lived in the village of Northport, before we moved to the water, I had beautiful gardens. I spent a lot of time reading about gardening, buying new plants, and then the hard part, gardening itself. What great exercise for the body and the mind. One year I won an award (one in about twenty they gave out) for the prettiest street garden. A beautification of the neighborhood award. I also had young children at the time, and my gardens sometimes took a beating. I lost some bushes by second base, and had many squished plants by the basketball net. It was usually okay with me, since we all had to live together, and making compromises is part of being a family.
The very best compliment I got on my garden was when a man was walking by, and saw about five bikes on the lawn. He said that my yard was beautiful, and he wasn’t just talking about the beautification award. He said this is what a yard is suppose to look like. Bikes and balls everywhere. I agreed with him. My home has alway been a place where kids could be kids.

Words are not just words
they are kisses
on the lips of silence
that speak of your essence

and your words
are the most lovely kisses

I agree with the stranger Tori. Your gardens were living and not just with the plants. Wonderful you for inspiring such life within your world. I am not surprised either. Your such a beautiful person that people will naturally gravitate towards you and the ones that don’t are simply envious of that special quality. I love this work because it is real. Good morning. xxxx

  • Thank you my friend. There were mothers in my neighborhood that never had the kids over and their homes were immaculate. One day one boy asked why my house was messy that day. I told him that one day it would be in order, but that would be the day that I started to miss him. I don’t think he understood, but it is true. I love having sandy floors and their things around. It is a lived in home, and my priorities lie elsewhere. Your comment was very loving, and I appreciate you being here and reading my tale.

I love your take on homes and gardens. People often think of appearances being far more important than the family ‘living’ in the home or the yard. Beautiful story and garden. You are the beautiful soul I thought you were.

  • You are so kind to say that, Bunny. I appreciate your presence here always. Thank you. xxx

Beautiful work, Tori! …and equallly beautiful write. In the search to have it all and all perfect, too, the concept that a house is not a home until it becomes where you live and thrive sometimes gets lost.

  • Margot! It’s so good to see you here. I would love a minted out home, but then I would have missed so much. Thank you for your great comment.
