Original description from old account:
I created this work after watching “Let Me In”, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reRRAEVHq8E&... the American remake of the 2008 Swedish vampire horror, “Let the Right One In” (original title: “Låt den rätte komma in”), based on a 2004 vampire fiction novel by Swedish writer John Ajvide Lindqvist. I don’t usually like the U.S. remake of a European movie but I connected with the child characters in this one more than I did in the original.
This story is a good warning about allowing oneself to get into dependent relationships. You don’t get more dependent than having to become a serial killer to provide your girlfriend with sustenance.
Here’s some advice from my own sorry experience:
Never, ever, ever, EVER, get involved with someone just to ease crushing loneliness. Crushing loneliness is a much better option to a soul destroying dependent relationship with a manipulator, user or abuser. Loneliness can always be turned into solitude.
When the person you’re with asks you to pretend that you’ve broken up when you’re around her friends because they don’t like you, because they think you’re a long haired hippy, it’s actually time to end the relationship. DON’T go along with the charade.
When the person you start dating threatens to commit suicide if you leave her in the first week of the relationship: RUN! Don’t throw away the next four years of your life getting used and then cheated on.
When someone does threaten to commit suicide if you leave them, the proper response is, “Well that would be very sad and unfortunate, but that would be your choice. And the fact that you would make such a threat reinforces my reasons for leaving this relationship. I recommend you talk to a counsellor rather than harming yourself though. I’m sure they’ll be able to convince you that I’m not worth killing yourself over.”
Owen should have said to Abby, "I think it’s time you came out from the cold. With the money you make from selling your story to all the mags and tabloids you’ll be able to hire the lawyer that got OJ Simpson off and pay people to donate blood without having to kill them. In fact there’s a whole lot of vampirophiles out there who’d line up to donate blood to you for free just so they could wear a t-shirt that said, “A Vampire Drank My Blood and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”. Think about it, no more hiding, proper long term friendships that aren’t poisoned by murder, an agent, a new trunk to sleep in, and all the blood you can drink."
My therapist once asked if I was attracted to predatory females as my four “romantic” relationships have all been with such women. The answer to that is no. I’m actually attracted to nice women, but they’ve never been attracted to me, as I’ve learnt from all the rejections. The problem is that the sense of social isolation that I’ve experienced made me vulnerable to this type of sociopathic individual. I accepted their advances out of extreme lonliness…and paid for that misjudgement. I’m now celibate and feel much more at peace for that decision.
ADDENDUM (March 2012):
I last saw the girlfriend to whom I refer in this description about 12 years ago in 1999. The week after I reach a mediated settlement with my sister over my mothers estate I suddenly receive a letter from lawyers she’s employed to accuse me of bizarre, twisted claims of defamation, and claiming that she lent me a substantial amount of money. My lawyer is dealing with it but this experience adds weight to my advice to not allow yourself to be taken advantage of by predators when you’re vulnerable. I suspect my sisters involvement, (my sister has hated me since I was born. I feel deeply sorry for her as she has also been affected by a less than ideal childhood). It is bitterly ironic that she is accusing me of slander as she is a pathological liar who told me lies about what friends had said and lied to them about me and things I had said in order to isolate me from my social network. By the looks of this matter it seems as though she continues to slander me but because no-one tells me what that slander is, I can’t do anything about it. I’m so sick of being spat on by people.
