Cabinet Card: 19th Century Pattern Makers: Water Wheel and Bicycles by

From the early photography collection of Gary Roberts, publisher of The Toolemera Press imprint, is this carefully reproduced print of an albumen cabinet card of Pattern Makers at work. In the rear of the shop can be seen a Water Wheel that powers the belt driven machinery. Patterns for various steam engine parts are scattered around the shop. A period bicycle hangs from the ceiling above a workbench.

This is a particularly rare and exciting view of a water driven pattern makers shop of the late 19th century, producing patterns for the manufacture of heavy steam engines with 36 inch bores.

The Toolemera Press specializes in the preservation of history through the reprinting and republishing of rare and classic Books, Photographic Images and Ephemera from our personal collection.
