Home from the Market.
Summer shopping from the open air market in Victoria, Gozo, is best done in the early hours of the day. The early hours offer shade, a fresher produce, and, best of all, fewer people around to bump into you. This Lady looks like she’s already done with her shopping for the day and appears to be heading home wheeling her shopping basket behind her.

Thank you Marvin….light plays a very important part in photography. It would be nice to learn how to exploit it to the fullest.

I used to shop at what we called “farmer’s markets” when i lived in southern states. I loved the fresh produce. A lovely picture, Anthony.

Good one! She looks a bit like the lady who was going to church in Mdina!

We have “farmers” markets too, in certain seasons, but most are too far to walk. That is the problem here, is that most places you go, you MUST drive! No other choice. But very good image. She just looks like someone I would like to sit and talk with. xx :)

G’day Anthony! Love this picture – it shows a woman who is the salt of the earth in her natural surrounds. She’s probably raised a large family, looks after the old man and the grandkids…...
What a genteel atmosphere to this picture – so far removed from many of our own daily battles with wobbly shopping trolleys and long queues at the supermarket! :)george

A few senior ladies look the same from behind but I assure you they are not as they live miles apart. One in Gozo and the other in Mdina. Thank you for your visit and your kind comment my friend.

Although Malta is a small island we also have to drive to get from one place to another. Open air Farmers’ markets are not that common in Malta as most farm produce is sold off Trucks and large Vans who either stay at one spot or else are driven through the streets and stop every now and then to sell their wares. Another choice is to go to the Supermarket or the Green Grocer where you will find a large choice of local and imported produce. Thank you for your visit Elaine. I’m sure thet most Senior Maltese Ladies would love to sit by you for a good chat.

Thank you my friend. When I saw the lady I knew she was going to walk out from the shade into that shaft of light, so I just waited with camera at the ready for the right moment. Hence the result. Photography is related to patience and endurance I’m afraid.

G’day George. I cannot agree with you more. She’s probably had a not so easy life…maybe been through a few hard times, like WWII with all its shortages of bare necessities like bread, and most likely lost a few loved ones too. Gozo life is still not as hurried as it is in Malta. Most Gozitans still find time for an afternoon siesta. A lovely place to visit and stay for a few days.Thank you for your visit my friend, your encouraging comment is more than welcomed.
