Dedicated to the amateur entertainers of this world who bring us the arts at the same time as enjoying their passion.

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society entertained the crowds at the 2013 Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart, Tasmania with street theatre excerpts from HMS Pinafore and The Pirates of Penzance…….Great fun!

Here. Sir Joseph Porter is telling us that if we stay close to our desks and never go to see, we all may be Rulers of the Queen’s Navee.

With no backstage or dressing rooms, the ladies’ costumes had to be a compromise of Sir Joseph’s relies, bumboat and pirate wenches.

Not being very knowledgeable on Gilbert and Sullivan I’m sure glad I read the description! Super picture, Tony.

Amusing photo…….though I am out of touch with Gilbert and Sullivan. Didn’t know anyone was still doing light operettas.

  • Thanks Nancy. A lot of amateur productions here and each year the Australian Opera put on a light operetta at the end of each season.

This is like a wonderful postcard from days gone by………………I really like it Tony………………..Joyce

  • Thanks Joyce. Those of us of Irish descent should appreciate the humour of this story of a British Naval Captain being demoted to the ordinary seaman ranks….the music is very jolly too :)
