A view of the Hyangwonjeong Pavilion, which stands on an islet in the centre of a square pond in the rear garden of the concubines’ quarters of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, South Korea.

Gyeonbokgung (Palace Greatly Blessed by Heaven) was built in 1395 three years after the foundation of the Joseon Dynasty and steadily expanded over the years until burned to ashes during the Japanese invasion of 1592.

After being rebuilt in 1867, as the symbol of national sovereignty it was again demolished in 1915 during the Japanese occupation.

The palace was restored to its original state between 1990 and 2007.

This shot was taken with my Pentax k-r on 29 October 2012.
