Schoolboys being led by their teacher down Main Street, Sovereign Hill, the museum and theme park working replica of the 1850s gold fields at Ballarat, Victoria, Australia.

Sovereign Hill has four costumed schools where visiting Primary students spend two days studying and playing as 1850s goldfields children. The schools use the Irish National Curriculum and, between them, they represent the kinds of education available in mid-19th century Australia.

Children and teachers in 1850s-style costume are a fascinating aspect of the goldfields scene as they move around Sovereign Hill. For this reason, they are often photographed informally by visitors and permission for this has been covered by their booking conditions.
