Public Art : Mare and Foal Sculpture (La Reyna)
Sculptor : © Arthur Jacques LeDuc (1848-1918)
Date : Donated to the Royal Botanic Gardens in 1958.
Description : Bronze statues of a Mare, named La Reyna, and her foal overlooking the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. On the base are reliefs depicting training and racing scenes.
Location : Royal Botanical Gardens, Sydney, Australia
History Of the Mare and Foal Sculpture : The Mare and Foal sculpture by French Sculptor, Arthur Jacques Le Duc, was purchased in 1891. The mare’s name is La Reyna but the foal (so far as I can gather) has no name.
This statue was restored in June 2002 through a gift in honour of the late
Lady (Bernice Mitchell) Finley who loved these gardens.
