One of the big leaf plants in the Munro Martin Fernery at the Cairns botanical Gardens. I am no botanist but it may be a big leaf Begonia variety.
Only four kilometers from the heart of Cairns City, the Flecker Botanical Gardens are a tropical oasis. 38 hectares of native Australian gardens are maintained to lush standards.
The Flecker Botanic Gardens were created in 1886, which means that many of the large plants and trees are lush and well established. The extensive selection of tropical flora includes some rare plants seldom found elsewhere in the world. These include exotic species of palms, gingers, orchids, bamboos, vines, aroids and tropical fruit trees.
Amazing arrays of orchids are spotted throughout the gardens, boasting beautiful bright colours that contrast perfectly with the variegated shades of greens.
The Gardens are listed on the Queensland State Heritage Register (Place ID No. 602541)
