Charlie Allnut: A man takes a drop too much once in a while, it’s only human nature.

Rose Sayer: Nature, Mr. Allnut, is what we are put in this world to rise above.

(Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn in “The African Queen”)

Two gentlemen emulating Charlie Allnut by having a quiet drink in their steam launch “Lady Lyn” at the Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart, Tasmania 13 February 2011. I guess they’re just waiting for a Rose to come along.

The SL Lady Lyn is not quite as old as the “African Queen” being built around 1950, restored and fitted with steam engine and boiler between 2000 and 2003 but she sure could play the part well.

The 2011 Wooden Boat Festival February 11-14 is expecting over 100,000 visitors to Hobart’s Sullivans Cove to see over 500 wooden boats from tall ships to dinghies and lots of maritime entertainment and activities around the harbour.

Taken with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH1 point & shoot.
