I believe this was the only one I saw this year (2009). Unfortunately this picture has been heavily cropped but might just be OK on a greeting card.

    I have never seen a Fritillary in any shape or form and am very envious! RB member Sharon Perrett was fortunate enough to capture the ‘Valensina’ variety of this species that occurs rather rarely.

  • We have a butterfly reserve within a 15 minute walk where these do breed within the fern in a copiced wood. However they seem to be very elusive, they are only around for a short time.
    I usually find there is a lot more variety of butterfly around the fields than there is at the reserve. Unfortunately the habitat there doesn’t have a variety of wild flowers which would attract other species. I was very fortunate to get this shot.
