White Roses

White roses planted outside the window
The heady scent consuming my senses
And as they turn brown and shrivel
I wait for the damned cycle to begin again

Cold in December
Lost in September
I see the colourless roses
And I always remember

Tiny, and oh so fragile
White and regal
Thorns never cut too deep
Wrinkling with age.

I hope they will never pass at bloom
But it’s bound to happen like before.
Everything will die eventually
Just prune them off so we can start again.

See the presents under the tree
We’ve all lost the gift of life
The roses are all burning in the summer sun
How can they bloom in spring?

Cold in December
Lost in September
I see the colourless roses
And I always remember

And they wornder why
Why I hate white.
