The Infamous Tokyo Rose was a woman who was born in the U.S. and used as a propaganda tool by Japanese Media to deter, question or create doubt in American service men during WWII. Many G.I.’s considered her a godsend… a familiar American voice keeping them company far from home.
After the war a women was arrested and tried but never really convicted. She was given a presidential pardon in 1977 by President Ford becuase there was evidence and sources later admitted to a pay off and promises of returning to the States. Iva Toguri passed away in 2006, May she rest in peace and the good Lord watch over her. (A copy of her case can be found at www.pbs.org/historydetectives)
I might also add that no one really new who Tokyo Rose was or what she looked like, and as the case study points out that; it was many women. G.I.’s always potrayed Tokyo Rose as a beautiful sexy woman. Rendered images adorned US planes through out the Pacific theater. You will note that my image looks nothing like Iva Toguri but rather her essance.
