Pilots and crew refered to this plane as the “Big tailed beast”. It was big for a aircraft carrier based plane. It was suppose to replace the other aging dive bombers but was plagued with so many problems that it almost missed the war. After WW2 the Navy quickly transitioned this airplane to it’s guard units which were land based. It did however see some combat again in Korea, but then again phased out for good once the jets started to come into play.
