I RECOGNIZE THE 1957 CHEVY, SINCE I HAD A 1957 BELAIR 4 DOOR STATION WAGON, BUT I DON’T RECOGNIZE THE ALUMINUM INLAY ON THE REAR QUARTER PANEL. WAS THIS A SPECIAL MODIFICATION, OR JUST A DIFFERENT ASPECT IN THE DRAWING? I WISH I STILL HAD MY WAGON. IF IT WERE RESTORED FROM THE FRAME UP, COMPLETELY FACTORY STOCK, IT WOULD BE WORTH MORE THAN THE NOMAD WOULD BE. SIMPLY BECAUSE NOBODY WANTED 4 DOOR WAGONS AND MOST REBUILDS ARE TWO DOOR JOBS AND THE 4 DOORS WERE WRECKING YARD JOBS. MINE HAD ALL THE SAME CHROME AS THE NOMADS AND THE TWO DOOR HARDTOP BELAIRS, IT JUST HAD TWO EXTRA DOORS. MINE ENDED UP WITH A 1963 GMC DUMP TRUCK , 525 HP, 750 FT. LBS OF TORQUE, 409 CU. IN. UNDER MY HOOD WITH A BORGUE WARNER T-10 4 SPEED WITH A 262 LOW GEAR AND A 370 POSITRACTION REAR END. THE BEST TIME IT EVER TURNED IN THE QUARTER MILE WAS 9.557 SECONDS AT 142.57 MPH AND THE TOP END ON THE HIGHWAY WAS 145 MPH. AT LEAST THAT’S WHAT THE XKE DRIVER TOLD ME WE WERE DOING. IT BLEW ME AWAY THAT THE NUMBERS CAME OUT LIKE THEY DID. THAT IS ALSO THE REASON, I’VE BEEN ABLE TO REMEMBER THE TIMES ALL THESE YEARS, BECAUSE THAT WAS BACK IN 1971, JUST ONE YEAR OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL. MY DAD HAD A MOBIL SERVICE STATION, SO I HAD TOOLS AND HOISTS AND JUST ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE I NEEDED TO BUILD THAT CAR. I ENDED UP GETTING RID OF IT BEFORE I KILLED MYSELF IN IT. I WISH I HAD IT NOW THOUGH. RESTORED COMPLETELY AND AT THE RIGHT AUCTION, IT COULD BRING AS MUCH AS $182,000.00. THAT’S THE MOST EXPENSIVE 57 CHEVY NOMAD I’VE EVER SEEN SOLD ON THE TELIVISSION SHOW, JACKSON BARRETT AUCTION. REMEMBER, MY 4 DOOR WAS MORE RARE THAN THE NOMADS. BOB ;)

It is amazing what people will pay for the old stuff. Both of these cars were modified by my Uncle, he was a big car nut in the 50’s and 60’s. A real talented guy. Thanks for the comment Bob!
