I did it

I lived deep within the city
Not a place for city lights
Where drugs and guns were common
Every day gun shots and fights

But just in front of my house
made up of concrete and stone
Among the garbage cans and trash cans
a peach tree stood alone

How it ever got there
no one would ever know
But there it was a peach tree
in sun and rain and snow

Every month it grew bigger
It grew and grew and grew
People gathered and talked and wondered
but no one ever knew

Mom watched it out her window
She just loved that little tree
and by giving it her love and care
I knew that she loved me

My mom … Well she’s gone now
so the story can be told
It was me I planted the peach seed
I was only four years old
