7D ISO 1000 Cardinal by tomryan

Another test shot for the 7D using AUTO ISO (1000) and my 400mm f5.6 L Handheld. I never use any of the “auto” settings on my cameras, but I was curious to see how the 7D would handle the low light conditions up in Oro Valley today. The sun was popping in-and-out while I was stalking this cardinal in some pretty dense trees. I set the camera on 1/500 and f5.6 and chose “AUTO ISO” so I could concentrate on getting the picture instead of fumbling about for the proper exposure.

Awesome! How do you like your 7D? I just picked one up a week ago.

It’s impressive. I’d love to see a 100% crop. What post processing did you do, which raw converter?

  • Hi John,
This is about 50% of the original. I process my RAW images with Canon’s DPP ver 3.7.1.1 then convert to a 300dpi TIFF. I resize the image and convert to JPEG with Photoshop.

Tom you are so right to tell us your camera settings on this one. It’s amazing the clearity of this shot at 1000 ISO, with so little noise. A great camera and good buy for you sir..
