The demise of Mr. Bear

How you do unsettle me,
my dearest Mr. Bear,
with you staring button eyes,
and soulless empty stare.

Now I do recall a time
when I was very small,
before that terrible event,
the thing that changed it all.

Back then you were loved bear,
you always drew a smile.
We did everything together,
by my side all the while.

Then there came that tragic day,
I wish I could forget,
You’ve never been the same dear bear,
since with that cat you met.

I recall I screamed in horror,
my whole world seemed to pause,
as the cat did scratch you eyes!
Removed them with his claws.

We shooed the fearsome cat away,
and rescued you, best we could.
Mother sewed and patched you up,
yet you don’t look as you should.

For where friendly eyes once looked out,
rests a void of inky black.
Two replacement button eyes,
the sense of love does lack.

So now you do unsettle me,
my dearest Mr. Bear,
with your staring button eyes,
and soulless empty stare.
