Why is it that the simple and mundane task of cleaning a bathroom can be so enjoyable for a person? Not that I know many people who enjoy cleaning bathrooms. But I do. I think I have been brought to a point in my life where just about everything I do gets so complex and challenging, that something simple becomes almost a luxury for me.
There is, of course, the gratifying feeling that a part of your life is actually clean for once. A nice clean bathroom feels good. But it’s more than that; I know how to clean a bathroom well. I know that if I start to clean a bathroom I can finish the job without having to think too hard. It is not a challenge. It is simple. It is easy. It is enjoyable.
I never used to understand how the people around me could stand such boring or simple jobs. Didn’t they want to be challenged? Weren’t they getting bored and complacent? I now understand why. A complicated life is rarely enjoyable. What time do you have to enjoy it if you’re too busy trying to sort out its problems?
I realise all this and yet I know if I were to clean bathrooms everyday, it wouldn’t be enjoyable anymore. It wouldn’t be a simple luxury. So perhaps I will get back to my complex and challenging life, and leave cleaning bathrooms as my one, simple, enjoyable, luxury.
Cleaning Bathrooms
Just my observations as to the reason why I enjoy cleaning a bathroom.
