Artist's Description

A solarplate photgravure etching done from a photograph by Lewis Wickes Hine, taken in December 1911, titled: Mrs Palontona and 13 year old daughter, Michaeline, working on “Pillow-lace” in dirty kitchen of their tenement home, 213 E. 111th Street, 3rd floor. They were both very illiterate. Mother is making fancy lace and girl sold me the piece she worked on. NCLC Collection. Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division. Attribution to Hine based on provenance. In album: Tenement homework.
