Poetry in a Peach Can

I pulled thee off the shelf
That I may delight myself
When the day is hot
And wish I were not;
Oh, to taste thy sweet nectar,
But first I must find the opener!
I find it amongst the kitchen tools
Saved away, but not with the jewels,
For the “jewels” are truly canned,
Gems that nature grows, in the land.
Morsels of “huge carrot” weight
Packed away in case freight.
Soft yellow as the morning sun,
To enjoy them—so much fun!
Rightly did Mister Barker say
There is “poetry,”
In amongst the peaches,
As high as the sky reaches;
Even coming from within a can,
They are a cool treat in hand!
