I like the idea but I still have to disapprove. I just finished writing my environmental engineering biology exam not 30 minutes ago and the majority of my test was an essay question on “why beef production is bad for the environment and what is a better alternative?”
Long story short, beef is extremely bad for the global environment. Much more so than any other meat. This is because it wastes land usage for grazing, it takes 10kg of feed to produce 1 kg of meat, and there’s so much organic waste that usually runs off into the ecosystem.
A better alternative for beef production is actually any type of legume. Legumes include peas, beans lentils, etc. Lentils are such a great alternative because they produce their own nitrogen and phosphorus which means they require no fertilizer (fertilizer is also extremely bad for the environment, more so than beef in fact.) It is also very interesting that most legumes contain way more protein than any meat, more vitamins too. Producing a crop like legumes results in no pathogen sources that can make humans sick, I can’t say the same about beef. Pathogens transferred via beef preparation range upwards of the 1000’s per year. The decline in beef production would also open up land usage for more necessary activities like crop production or encouraging forestation.
