Scarborough Panorama by Tom Gomez

Looking over Scarborough’s South Bay from the top of Oliver’s Mount. South Bay Beach is in the centre of the shot and the small harbour, Marina and Lighthouse are on the right. The ruins of Scarborough Castle sit on the headland in the back of the shot.

Scarborough has been called the “Queen of the Yorkshire Coast” and is located on the North Sea coast of North Yorkshire, England, between Whitby to the north and Filey and Bridlington to the south.

Camera: Canon EOS 60D
Lens: Sigma 18-200mm

Two sets of three bracketed RAWs converted to HDR in Photomatix Pro then PhotoMerged in Adobe Elements.

Outstanding panoramic shot of this place at I believe twilight! You will be amused to know that on seeing the name I thought you were in the Toronto, Canada area and thinking that doesn’t look like Scarborough…
There is a town that is nestled quite close to Toronto that bears the same name. I was of course informed by your description that I am forgetting that a lot of city and town names here in Canada are derived from names used in the old country! How quick we forget origins here in the New World! hahaha! This looks like a much lovelier and interesting town than Scarborough, Ontario which is a sleeper town for Toronto!

  • Thank you Joanne, it was late afternoon last June when I took the shot. Scarborough is a typical English Seaside Resort which can be very busy with tourist all through the summer months, an interesting place to visit, especially as it has a rich history but not somewhere I would want to vacation in, although many return year after year …
