A shot from the top of the East Cliff looking across Whitby Harbour, where the River Esk enters the North Sea in the seaside town of Whitby, North Yorkshire, England.

The land rises steeply on the West side. The church steeple on the left is the West Cliff Congregational Church (built 1867) at Belle Vue Terrace and Albert Place and the large church tower on the right at the back of the shot is the Church of St Hilda (built 1884-86, tower completed 1938) in Church Square and Crescent Avenue.
