Appear at the South-West Bay on the banks of Linlithgow Loch during the winter months with a few scraps of bread and you are in danger of being mobbed by the resident birdlife.
Linlithgow Loch is a small loch located to the north of the centre of Linlithgow in West Lothian Council Area. Linlithgow Palace overlooks the loch.
The loch is home to a large number of water birds including the rare Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus). These are a large number of Mute Swans, Little Grebes, Moorhens and the loch supports some of the largest flocks of Coot, Mallard, Pochard and Tufted Duck in West Lothian. The rare Ruddy Duck has occurred and a Smew has been a regular over the past few years.
