The Forth Rail Bridge with the Forth Road Bridge in the background.

This unique steel Cantilever Bridge with three diamond-shaped towers crosses the river Forth at South Queensferry, Scotland. The bridge was designed by Sir John Fowler and Benjamin Baker. The bridge was built by Sir William Arrol.

Constructed started in 1883. The bridge was opened in 1890 at a cost of £2.5m and 57 fatalities among the construction crew (it is now believed that the actual death toll is likely to have been closer to 80).

The bridge is still in use today, carrying the railways to the north from Edinburgh.

Hi Tom, thanks for all your kind comments on my work! Was it this one you were referring too, love the super wide angle view and the road bridge in the background. Nice reflections, great photo! You seem to have caught it on a slightly less moody day than me.

  • Hi Roddy, actually I have a shot which is almost identical to yours. Click here to see it.

I recently finished a novel & one character was obssessed with bridges – this one got special mention & a rambling history, so nice to actually see a photo of it. Must say I like the perspective & bridge has great form/shape
