Artist's Description

Ask anyone who commutes into the centre of Edinburgh by train and they will tell you that the Waverley Steps can be a killer.

These famous steps, built in 1867, lead down twelve and a half metres from Princes Street to Waverley Railway Station.

I have been using the steps for many years and when I was younger, I used to power up the steps three at a time, often with the wind (the steps can be very windy) either assisting or hindering my progress. These days, I take the steps one at a time and stop once (or twice) on the way up to give my lungs a few moments to recover.

The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
