An uncharacteristically quiet alleyway in Lindos Village on the Greek Island of Rhodes.

The village and the Acropolis which towers over it are popular tourist destinations. During the summer months, tourist crowd the maze of narrow alleyways around the village.

Lindos was founded by the Dorians led by the king Tlepolemus of Rhodes, who arrived in about the 10th century BC. It was one of six Dorian cities in the area known as the Dorian Hexapolis. The eastern location of Rhodes made it a natural meeting place between the Greeks and the Phoenicians, and by the 8th century Lindos was a major trading centre. Its importance declined after the foundation of the city of Rhodes in the late 5th century.

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese group of Greek islands.

Love those little lanes there, perfect for getting lost. Very nice capture Tom, don’t you just love walking on those cobble stones……

  • Thank you so much Varinia, it is a beautiful little village but there are way too many tourists. I got lucky with this shot as there was a lull in the traffic. The pebbles (Cholkakia Mosaics) used to create the cobbles, are characteristic of the Dodecanese.

Not even a mad dog but maybe an Englishman out at this time of day. Great shot with lots of contrast and nicely framed by the alley walls and canopy. Tony
