Taken during the fantastic Bubblemeet in Edinburgh, Scotland on Sunday 24th October 2010.

I was standing in the cordoned off section in the middle of the road in front of Rutland Place looking towards the busy intersection at the west End of Edinburgh when I took this shot.

On the left is Frasers Department Store on the corner of Hope Street and Princes Street. The clock above the corner is really interesting and features a kilted Pipe Band marching round the base of the clock.

In the centre of the shot is St. John’s Church at the corner of Princes Street and Lothian Road.

Behind St. John’s Church, you can see the clock tower and spire of St. Cuthbert’s Church just off Lothian Road.

Behind St. Cuthbert’s Church you can see part of Edinburgh castle. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city of Edinburgh like no other castle in Scotland, and Edinburgh Castle is unequalled in the whole of the British Isles. Over one thousand years of history sit on top of the famous Edinburgh rock.

St. John’s Church is an Historic Scotland Category A Listed Building (HB Number 27401).

St. Cuthbert’s Church is an Historic Scotland Category A Listed Building (HB Number 27339).

Edinburgh Castle is a collection of buildings many of which are Historic Scotland Category A or B Listed Buildings. As an example, Edinburgh Castle Great Hall is Category A listed (HB Number 48220).

The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I couldnt correct you as Hockey did Tom as i dont know the area but you have taken a very historical pic here and as usual a very informative narrative,.Regards Dave.

  • Thank you kindly Dave, I originally wrote that it was Jenners Store (which was once the oldest independant department store in the world). It was late and I was obviously not thinking as I knew it was Fasers – hehehe
