Petaloudes lies approximately five kilometers south east of the village of Theologos (or Tholos). During August, thousands of butterflies of the genus Panaxia (species Quadripunctaria Poda) overwhelm the valley in order to reproduce.
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese group of islands.
