Water is in very short supply in the village of Nimborio, the only settlement on the beautiful Greek Island of Halki (Chalki).

There is no natural water supply and it is a very dry climate, so precious water has to be brought in by tanker from Rhodes. Despite this, the residents do their very best to grow as many plants and flowers in pots as they can. Almost all waste water is uilised for this purpose.

Plant pots are lined up outside the houses in the village lanes.

Halki is a small yet very charming island, part of the Dodecanese Group, situated opposite the west coast of Rhodes.

Beautiful, Tom. I sympathize with them. I can’t even wash the car, it would use too much water from my well!

  • Glad you like it mate, we ran out of water when we were there. Luckily, they were just changing over storage tanks so the water came back on in about 30 minutes …
