One of the most important religious sites in the world is this little stone building close to the ancient city of Ephesus (Ancient Greek Ἔφεσος, Turkish Efes), an ancient Greek city on the west coast of Anatolia, near present-day Selçuk, Izmir Province, Turkey. It is said to be the home of the Virgin Mary. This is where she was brought by the Apostle John after the crucifixion of Christ.
After Mary’s death at age 64 the house was turned into a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
This place of pilgrimage is visited by thousands of tourists every year, and maintains its holiness for the Moslem as well as for the Christian world.
