This unique steel Cantilever Bridge with three diamond-shaped towers crosses the river Forth at South Queensferry, Scotland. The bridge was designed by Sir John Fowler and Benjamin Baker. The bridge was built by Sir William Arrol.

Constructed started in 1883. The bridge was opened in 1890 at a cost of £2.5m and 57 fatalities among the construction crew (it is now believed that the actual death toll is likely to have been closer to 80).

The bridge is still in use today, carrying the railways to the north from Edinburgh.

The Forth Bridge is an Historic Scotland Category A listed structure. HB Number 40370.

Yes. Fine perspective! Yet another interesting shape. Isn’t it strange how fatalities associated with these bridges (Like our Sydney Harbour Bridge) almost sound like they are just a natural cost associated with building these things?

  • Thank you

As fine an image of The Forth Bridge as I’ve seen, I like your use of the foreground branches for framing the bridge, a beauty Tom,
    Regards, Rod.

Love the angle you’ve taken this from Tom—on your doorstep?

  • Yes it is Gwenda, I live in South Queensferry. The bridges are about a mile away from my door at the other end of town.
