The Liston (Λιστόν) in the old part of Corfu Town on the beautiful Greek Island of Corfu.
Built by the French in the same style as those in Rue de Rivoli, Paris, the Liston borders the main esplanade or Spianada. The Liston houses some of the finest cafes and restaurants in Corfu and is a wonderful place to ‘people watch’ while enjoying a glass of wine.
The name Liston came from the English “List on” meaning the list of the vendors’ fare, in other words the menu.
The British also left Cricket (the only place in Greece you will find it), which was played on the pitch opposite the Liston. Sadly today, due to nearby parked cars, they no long play in this famous location.
We have been fortunate enough to sit here under the arches on a few occasions enjoying a wonderful lunch. We even sat and watched the cricket many years ago (not my favourite sport, but given the ambiance of the location, I actually enjoyed it on that occasion).
The Old Town of Corfu is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
