A Skeleton of its Former Self by Tom Gomez

A Skeleton of its Former Self by

The largest of its type in the Roman world, the Flavius amphitheatre, opened by Titus Flavius Vespasianus in 80 A.D, is the most famous monument in Rome and is known as the “Colosseum” or “Coliseum”.

Originally covered in Travertine stone slabs, the Colosseum would have been a beautiful structure in white. Three-fifths of the outer surrounding brick wall are now missing having been plundered to build some of the most beautiful buildings of Rome.
