Bridge over the Doon by Tom Gomez

An Historic Scotland Category A Listed Building

Seen from the adjacent road bridge, the 15th century Brig o’ Doon crosses the River Doon on the edge of the town of Alloway, South Ayrshire, Scotland.

Repaired in 1832, the bridge features in the final verse of Robert Burns’ epic tale of Tam O’Shanter.

The Brig o’ Doon is an Historic Scotland Category A Listed Building (Ref 21474).

Don’t know what a “doon” is, but it’s a great photo anyway. LOL!

  • Hehe, pleased you like it Nancy, the Doon in question is the River Doon which is crossed by the Brig (bridge). Incidental, the bridge is allegedly the inspiration for the name of the 1947 musical Brigadoon by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe.

  • Thank you Jan, I was standing on the road bridge a few hundred yards distance. The road bridge was built in 1816 to replace the Brig o’ Doon which was now too narrow for the traffic it received …
