Artist's Description

A shot from the top of the East Cliff looking across the entrance to Whitby Harbour, where the River Esk enters the North Sea in the seaside town of Whitby, North Yorkshire, England.

Coming up to the 25.3m tall West Lighthouse (built in 1835) at the end of the West Pier is the Bark Endeavour, a 40% authentic scale replica of HMS Endeavour, a British Royal Navy research vessel commanded by Lieutenant James Cook on his first voyage of discovery, to Australia and New Zealand from 1769 to 1771.
