The land rises steeply on the West side. The church steeple at the back of the shot on the left is the West Cliff Congregational Church (built 1867) at Belle Vue Terrace and Albert Place and the large church tower on its right is the Church of St Hilda (built 1884-86, tower completed 1938) in Church Square and Crescent Avenue.
