The town of Firá, the capitol of Santorini, Greece sits on top of, and hangs precariously at the edge of, steep cliffs, 300 m (984 ft) above the level of the sea. “Firá”, is actually a different pronunciation of “Thíra”, the ancient name of the island itself.
