The village of Firá (the capitol) of Santorini. Houses and hotels are all crammed together on the edge of the cliff.

Firá sits on top of, and hangs precariously at the edge of, steep cliffs, 300 m (984 ft) above the level of the sea. “Firá”, is actually a different pronunciation of “Thíra”, the ancient name of the island itself.

Santorini is a collection of small Islands which are the southern most islands of the Cycladic Group in the Aegean Sea.

  • They don’t need an earthquake Linda, there is a giant volcano under the water in the bay. It already destroyed the Island and most of that region of the Mediterranean a few thousand tears ago and it will definitely go again some day.
