The view from the Hawes Pier by

An Historic Scotland Category A Listed Bridge

The view of the world famous Forth Bridge from half way down the recently repaired Hawes Pier in South Queensferry, Scotland.

This unique steel Cantilever Railway Bridge with three diamond-shaped towers crosses the River Forth from South to North Queensferry.

The Forth Bridge is an Historic Scotland Category A Listed structure. HB Number 40370.

Construction started in 1883. The bridge was opened in 1890 at a cost of £2.5m (~£253m in today’s prices) and 57 reported fatalities among the construction crew (it is now believed that the actual death toll is likely to have been closer to 100).

The bridge is still in use today, carrying the railways to the north from Edinburgh. Along with the Forth Road Bridge (about half a mile to the west) these two bridges form the main traffic arteries north and south.

Three bracketed RAWs Tonemapped in Photomatix Pro 4.2.6.
