The view from the Scotsman
This shot is taken from the North Bridge entrance to the Scotsman Building (once the headquarters for the Scotsman newspaper, but now the 5 star Scotsman Hotel). Looking past the City Art Centre on the left, to the Bank of Scotland Building with its distinctive green dome. Situated on the Mound, the former Bank of Scotland headquarters, now headquarters of the merged HBOS, has dominated the northern flank of Edinburgh’s Old Town for 300 years.
The Bank of Scotland Building is an Historic Scotland Category A Listed Building (HB Number 28263).
Behind the Bank of Scotland Building you can see a small part of the magnificent Edinburgh Castle on top of the rock. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city of Edinburgh like no other castle in Scotland, and Edinburgh Castle is unequalled in the whole of the British Isles. Over one thousand years of history sit on top of the famous Edinburgh rock.

tell ya what mate I have the same lens and what a cracker it is the 18-200 – good choice
Tom Gomez replied
It is a good lens, but I have noticed I get some Vignetting, especially with a bright sky. I think I need to try it without the lens hood and see if that makes a difference …

And a beautiful cityscape view it is Tom, Edinburgh is blessed with such classic architecture and this composition shows it so well, love the sky as well, it compliments the stonework tones perfectly, a beauty,
Regards, Rod.

Pat Yager
This is such a captivating picture, Tom, and your description is so interesting. The image portrays both the very old and the relatively new, combining the soft lushness of the green foliage with the more austere bold, straight lines of the structures.
Tom Gomez replied
Thank you so much Pat for your lovely comment. Edinburgh is a very green city, there are parks and trees everywhere and given the amount of rain we get here, they are always a rich verdant green …
