In the Glow of the Morning

In the Glow of the Morning

An early morning view across the village of Nimborio on the Greek Island of Halki. The sun had just risen behind me and the mountain was glowing in the early morning light.

In the centre of the shot is the broken clock tower. The residents of Tarpon Springs, Florida, USA (descendants of Halki sponge divers who were forced to relocate when the sponge diving around Halki became unprofitable) endowed Halki with money for the stone clock tower.

Halki is a small yet very charming island in the Dodecanese that is situated opposite the west coast of Rhodes.

Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Dynamic-Photo HDR.

Hi Tom, I love these kinds of views in the early morning light. I managed to capture some whilst visiting Edinburgh recently. I went to Princess Stree and captured the morning light, but it was quite dark. I’ll upload them soon. You’ve really captured a treasure here with the lovely warm light. Have a great day snappin away. Don.

This photo is beautiful and it would be an honor if you could add it to our group All About Florida

Thank you Isa for your kind comment. I have several other Halki shot with association to Tarpon Springs, including a few which show the paved road (Tarpon Springs Boulevard) paid for by the Tarpon Springs residents.

Tom .. thanks so much !.. I apologize for not reading everything about this image.. I read Tarpon Springs!:) .. and did not read past it too much .. you may place this image in our forum, if you like.. We would adore and be delighted to hear of this community .. but the reality is , it would not fit in the gallery , per se. my sincere regret for having said so :)

Thanks so much Tom , for this beautiful photo and history !.. this is fascinating information . Chhers
    Isa

  • Tom Gomez replied

No problem Isa. There is a clear association with the Halki ex-pats who moved to Tarpon springs, but these shots are very Greek.

When we wer on Halki last year there was a group of Tarpon Springs residents visiting their extended families, so the links have never been lost.
