Beblowe Craig
The volcanic mound known as Beblowe Craig, and sited on top of it is Lindisfarne Castle, one of the most distinct and picturesque features of the Holy Island, Northumberland, England. The castle can be seen for many miles around.
Following the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII, it was built in 1550 in defence of the realm against attack by Scotland and in persuit of their Spanish allies.
Constructed of stone taken from the Priory the most interesting recent feature (1997) has been the re-facing of north-facing walls which featured the use of Yak hair in the render. The castle is excellently maintained by the National Trust and the view from the top truly magnificent – it is also unique.

Thanks Carol, I just like taking pictures, but I am also fascinated by history, something we have an abundance of in this country. I am a Technical Author/Trainer, so I actually enjoy researching the information for my pictures.

It was worth it Phil. It is the smallest castle I have ever been in, but it is fully furnished and the inside of the Castle is a joy.

Wow, Tom, great castle… well captured. Wish we had such well aged history here in America.

America has its own charms. You could spend your whole life looking and only see the half of it. I have been in the USA approx 30 times (I forget exactly how many), but always on business trips ranging from 3 days to 3 weeks, but I don’t feel like I have seen anything of your fabulous country. Apart from the ocassional weekend during longer trips, I would arrive late on a Sunday, work long days during the week and then catch the late flight home on Friday. Someday, I hope to make it a proper vacation without having to work.

It really is a lovely little castle, the smallest one I have ever been inside. We were very lucky with the weather.
