Caice at Otter Creek

Otter Creek runs clear as glass along a pebble bottom as it emerges from the ferns. Small fish dart in the dappled shadows, flashing sparks of sunlight. The smooth stones offer no threat to a child’s soft foot; and the running cool waters are like the tongues of playful puppies across instep and ankle. Generations of small children have been delighted here, under the remembering eyes of hard used parents who can for the moment set aside their burden and recall their own time as a child in that water. A cycle repeated like the water running to the bay from the Shenandoah.
