"The Myth of Self" acrylic on canvas by

the constant restraint and guard one has to take with ones ego or addict or “Id” . it is a tricky conniving mother fucker and it wants what it wants and is very clever . Like a baby rhinoceros in a open market , creating destruction everyplace it goes and not even knowing it . the myth is is that it is real. On one hand it needs constant guard and on the other it is fed by our own insecurities and constant guard means that you miss the beauty around you and the needs of others , that there are many in the same boat but do not have the awareness to know they are being ruled by a myth, and with your help you can ,, help them up and get the focus off your self and onto others but that cant be done till you know your own faults and broken tools used through out a life time .

I believe you hit the nail when mentioning “insecurities”. They turn us inward, and then force the hand with traits like bragging, over-achieving, proving oneself; and all of these seem egotistical. Maybe they are, but they are more of a pointer to insecurities, than bloated ego. Regardless of the vulnerability, as you said, the focus becomes on “self”, rather than outward. Each person has so many gifts that they could give to others, freely. If only we all realized the sheer power of that. Such an interesting allegorical style work to illustrate your point. I love meaningful works.
